The Study

Among the oldest of all breeds, the Basenji hunted alongside Central African tribes for millennia, prized for its silence — it yodels rather than barks, a sound called the baroo. Wrinkled brow, tightly curled tail and pricked ears give it an expression of perpetual contemplation. Basenjis groom themselves like cats, are nearly odourless, and possess an independence that can read as aloofness. They bond deeply, but on their own terms.

Care & Keeping

Needs daily runs and secure fencing — they climb and escape with feline ease. Training requires creativity; recall is earned, never assumed. The short coat needs almost no grooming.
